Now entering the 2nd 3-year period of implementation (2021-2023), the CFE Consortium has expanded its representation across Europe, welcoming four new members in 2018, one new member already in 2019 and two more in 2020. The certification is currently being implemented in fourteen countries across Europe, with a total of more than 200 employers already certified as Cycle-Friendly.

The General Assembly of Consortium members was held last week (14th January), bringing together representatives across Europe to discuss and share plans for the year ahead. CFE Members shared their experiences in certifying employers during the pandemic, a year of obvious obstacles to workplace certifications, which nevertheless marked an increase in interest in many countries by employers determined to future-proof their premises for their employees.

The new composition of the Steering Committee was confirmed as follows: James Palser (Cycling UK), Carlos Martín (Bikefriendly Group), Sara Tsudome (ADFC), Max Mooij (Fietsersbond NL) and Michael O’Boyle (CFE Ireland).

An interactive map of the first 169 Certified Employers was unveiled to the CFE Members, with more employers to be added in the coming weeks. The map currently depicts the 16 CFE Members implementing the certification scheme in their countries, 21 Gold Certified Employers, 75 Silver Certified Employers, 42 Bronze Certified Employers and 31 certified employers in countries where the three levels are not yet implemented. The new CFE Map can be found at the following link here.

This year’s Call for Applications for new CFE members in non-represented countries will be launched soon, so watch this space!
