According to ADEME, France’s Environmental and Energy Management Agency, over 60% of commutes under 5km are made by car and only 5% by bicycle. Aware of the obstacles faced by employees cycling to work, FUB together with ADEME created Employeur Pro-Vélo in 2021. During 2021-2024, FUB has implemented this very highly successful national level label. Through the label employers gain access to tools, resources, and a structured approach to improving cycling culture which supports and integrates their existing policies and specific needs. Similar to the CFE Certification, employers undergo an independent audit and are awarded a certification level (Bronze, Silver or Gold) valid for three years. Since it’s inception, more than 500 employers have been certified through the national label.
FUB is now extending its certification scheme, opening it up for new registrations by employers in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Most importantly, FUB is now aligning its national label with ECF’s European CFE Certification. This means, that employers in France obtaining a certification of Employeur Pro-Vélo, are also awarded the equivalent level of the CFE Certification for three years.
Measures, and activities that facilitate, support and reward cycle-friendly workplaces are a catalyst for change that links forward-looking employers with the resources, the help, and the expertise that can support them, from strategy and governance, communication, and infrastructure, to safety measures and support services.
The expansion of the CFE Certification Framework to France is an important milestone in the movement towards sustainable mobility in European workplaces. ECF’s CFE Certification brings about meaningful improvements to everyday life and long-term health of employees. It also encourages collaborations between public institutions, private firms, and civil society. National coordinators and certified employers gain a voice in shaping future mobility policies and shifting the overall culture around cycling and transportation by being part of a Europe-wide network.
